Good picture composition is key to creating strong, impactful photographs. Principles like symmetrical balance, leading lines, silhouettes, centered subjects, framing, and filling the frame help guide the viewer’s eye and make images more visually appealing.

Symmetrical Balance

I took a photo demonstrating symmetrical balance at my home in Igahanga, Kicukiro, on June 22, 2025. After completing research on the concept and principles of symmetrical balance, I applied that knowledge by photographing a book. I used photography techniques that emphasize symmetry and visual harmony to create a balanced composition.

Symmetrical Balance photo information :
  •    Device model : SONY ILCE-7M3
  •    Focal length.   : 39 mm
  •    F number         : f/5
  •    Exposure time : 1/250
  •    Iso                    : 500

                                                             Leading lines

I took a photograph of leading lines on July 11, 2025, at Bugesera, near the pedestrian bridge. I wanted to capture how leading lines guide the viewer’s eye through the image, which is a key technique in composition. I chose that location because the bridge and pathway created natural lines. Using my camera, I carefully framed the shot to highlight the direction and flow created by those lines.

                                                                   Silhouette

I took a silhouette photograph on June 1, 2025, in Kicukiro–Rebero, near Fazenda. I wanted to capture the dramatic effect of light and shadow during sunset. The photo featured a subject outlined against the fading light, and I achieved this by positioning the camera against the light source to emphasize shape and contrast.

    •    Focal length.   : 70 mm
    •    F number         : f/5.6
    •    Exposure time : 1/2000
    •    Iso                    : 700

                                          Centered Subject (Rule of Thirds)

I took a photograph using the Centered Subject approach based on the Rule of Thirds on July 9, 2025, in Nyamirambo during the Esperance Football Tournament. I wanted to highlight the main subject in a visually balanced and engaging way. The composition followed the Rule of Thirds, and I achieved this by carefully positioning the subject at the center while aligning the surrounding elements to the grid.

    Symmetrical Balance photo information :

    •    Device model : SONY ILCE-7M3
    •    Focal length.   : 28 mm
    •    F number         : f/5.6
    •    Exposure time : 1/1600
    •    Iso                    : 1000

Mastering these composition principles allows photographers to create photos that are clear, balanced, and engaging. They turn ordinary images into powerful visual stories.

                                                               Fill the Frame

      I
took a Fill the Frame photograph on July 7, 2025, i capture this photo after during a lesson of Director Wawelu. The photo featured a subject with aligned eyes (aline eyes) closely framed to emphasize facial details and expression. I achieved this by tightly positioning the camera around the face to eliminate distractions and draw full attention to the subject.
